Hello!
I am Theresa Martinez-Shapiro;
Wife to Robert. Founder of Flexible Being. A Master Reiki Therapist, Certified Oracle Guide, Spiritual Mentor/Guide, Intuitive Empath, Coach, and Educator. I am a fur mom to 3 cats and 1 dog – Sonny, Patches, Ryelee, and Winnie. We currently live and practice in Stockton, California. We operate three businesses – Shapiro Holistic Health and Chiropractic, Fusion Health APC, and Synergy Health MSO, where we seek to improve and change the lives of our patients and those we have the privilege of crossing paths with.

My healing and mentoring journey began around 5 years old when I discovered that I was put on this planet to help others. I knew I was different, unique, and gifted. I did not see the world the same way everyone else did, and recognized I was meant to do so much more. I began to research, spending a lot of time reading & asking a lot of questions to anyone that wanted to share stories about their life experiences. I am a dreamer and had a unique relationship with the dream world. My very real, vivid & lucid dreams began turning into out-of-body experiences and unexplained occurrences. I began doing my own dream interpretations to look for patterns & a new way of deciphering life. Family members were part of many different religions, so I was educated in Catholicism, Buddhism, Metaphysics, and Native American culture & beliefs. Along the way, I took up multiple mentors that cultivated my growth and expansion of my gifts, allowing me to focus on my potential and purpose.

As an adult, coworkers were unloading their life stories, internal secrets, and things that had not been shared or even spoken out loud. I began to share those experiences with my aunt & Reiki Master/Teacher, Carmen. In 2012, Carmen told me, “I think you are ready to walk the path I always knew you were meant to walk”. That saying began my obsessive journey into Reiki, Spirituality, Psychology, Intuition and Psychic gifts, Meditation and Mindfulness, Past Lives, Consciousness, Energy Medicine, Mysteries of the Universe, Moon and Sun cycles, Astrology, Numerology, Oracle Cards, Shamanism, & so much more.

My journey has helped me to assist patients, clients, families, and friends discover who they have been, who they are, and who they want to become. I am expanding my reach and educating others by authoring Musings of a Flexible Being, and I look forward to sharing my journey with you.

Thank you!

Books to Blogs #11

Book: 3000 Unique Questions About Me
Question #780: “If it wasn’t called a ‘Hershey’s Kiss,’ what name would you give it?”

The first thing that came to my mind was a chocolate tear drop. There’s something about that name that feels both sweet and sentimental—like a tiny drop of joy wrapped in foil. It captures the shape and somehow the emotion too.

But Hershey’s Kisses aren’t always silver anymore. They now come in an entire rainbow of colors—gold for weddings, pink for baby showers, red and green for Christmas, even blue and silver for baby reveals. During our hotel stay this past weekend, I noticed they were purple! I’d never seen that before, and it made me smile. It’s funny how something so familiar can still surprise you when it takes on a new color.

Curious to see what others might say, I started asking around—friends, clients, and even patients. One patient thought I was setting up a joke and asked, “What’s the punchline?” When I explained it was for my blog, she laughed and said, “The poop emoji.” I laughed so hard—because honestly, she’s not wrong!

Then the floodgates opened. My friends chimed in with everything from adorable to slightly inappropriate:

  • “Chocolate Smoosh”
  • “Mount Chocolate”
  • “Hershey’s Peck”
  • “Chocolate Smooch”
  • “The Dingleberry” (which sounds sweet until you know what it actually means)
  • “Chucko Nips”
  • “Tippy Nippies”
  • and “Chocolate Numnums.”

By that point, I was laughing so hard my eyes were watering. I love how one lighthearted question about candy turned into a cascade of creativity, humor, and pure silliness. Everyone’s response reflected something about them—their playfulness, boldness, or sense of humor—and together, it reminded me that joy multiplies when it’s shared.

Later, I went back to look at that purple-wrapped Kiss from the hotel. The tiny paper tag sticking out said one simple word: DARK. It made me laugh all over again—because, in a way, that little piece of chocolate summed up the entire conversation. Sweetness with a touch of dark humor. Light and shadow in one small, shiny wrapper. Maybe that’s why laughter feels so healing—it helps us hold both at once.

Whether you call it a Kiss, a Tear Drop, a Smooch, or something entirely ridiculous like a Tippy Nippie, the meaning remains the same: small, sweet, and meant to make someone smile. Maybe that’s the real magic—how something tiny can spark laughter, conversation, and connection.

Reflection Prompt

If you could rename something—anything—in your life, what would it be and why?
Would giving it a new name change how you feel about it?

Try This

Ask your friends or coworkers to rename their favorite candy. You’ll be amazed how quickly laughter fills the room and how creativity—and maybe a little mischief—brings everyone together.

Closing Thought

Sometimes the smallest chocolates bring the biggest laughs—and remind us that even in life’s dark moments, there’s always something sweet to savor.
