This Could Only Happen to Us

Our first NAB Marconi Award nomination came in 1996. Our spirits were high. We pictured the big moment.

Then somebody else won.

Over the years, we became quite experienced at being happy for other people. By 2017, we were convinced: THIS would be our year!

It was not our year.

Eventually, Sheri and I made peace with the idea that the coveted Marconi Award might never come home with us. So when we learned we were finalists again this year, our reaction was a little less “Pop the champagne!” and a little more “Well, that’s nice. What’s for lunch?”

Please don’t misunderstand. It really is an honor to be nominated, and we’re grateful. But after enough losses, you learn to manage expectations. Susan Lucci eventually won her Emmy after 19 nominations. We admire her persistence.

Apparently, we are a lot less understanding.

With everything we’ve had going on, we decided to skip this year’s ceremony. No tickets. No hotel. No flights. We didn’t even arrange for someone to accept on our behalf.

You can see where this is going.

On October 20, 2026, Bob & Sheri won the NAB Marconi Award for Syndicated Show.

Hell froze over. We were unavailable for comment.

After all those years of imagining an acceptance speech, we finally won—and delivered the shortest one in show business: complete silence.

Sheri was told that someone from our former Charlotte affiliate’s corporate office accepted for us—a man who may never have heard of the show, suddenly accepting an award for it. Honestly, that’s on brand.

Whoever you are, thank you for stepping in. We owe you one. Possibly our UPS shipping number as well.

Our next challenge is locating the actual trophy, a handsome glass obelisk that has already attended a fancier evening than we have.

Stay tuned. The search for Marconi is underway.

All kidding aside, I know I speak for the entire show when I say thank you. You’ve stayed with us through changes, challenges, big laughs, and moments when keeping this thing going took everything we had. Your loyalty means more to us than any trophy ever could—even one we’ve spent 30 years trying to win.

As we move into our next chapter as a podcast, we hope you’ll keep listening, subscribe, and continuing to support us. You’re part of this family, and there’s so much more we want to share with you.

Apparently, we’re a Marconi award-winning show now.
Same crew. More to love. One trophy to track down.
