Dreams Can Come True

Play episode

Well, it’s been a very interesting, surprising, and glorious, last few weeks. As most of you know I am now on the show full time and I’m having the time of my life. This is something I’ve dreamed about for over 25 years. I started listening to the show when I heard them on the radio of a woman I was dating.

I thought it was smart, funny, and very entertaining. I started listening everyday and I was pretty sure I could win a prize in the “Chatroom”, and I did. Most of these prizes were things I would have to drive too far to take advantage of. Then I won a spiral sliced ham! There is no distance too far to travel when you are talking about the honey sweet goodness of the other white meat, especially when it is pre-sliced!

Bob and Sheri happened to be doing a remote, close to the location of my ham. They were signing “Best of Bob and Sheri” cassette tapes. When Sheri asked who to make it out to, I said, “Lamar.” She asked if I was the guy calling them all the time and I said, “yes, I am.”

I continued to call every week and one day, since Bob was sick, they asked me to come do the show live in the studio. And for some reason they kept answering the phone for years, up until the present. Me being here now on a fulltime basis is a testament to Bob and Sheri’s kindness, graciousness, and generosity. I knew nothing about doing this, and still don’t know much, but what I have managed to learn came from Bob, Sheri, and my good friend Max.

So, as I sit down in front of a microphone every morning with my friends and talk, I want to say how thankful and truly blessed I am. If I’m nothing else, I’m an example of the fact that dreams really can come true.

  • Welcome aboard Lamar. You are bringing something extra to the table. We all love someone who talks and sounds like us!

  • Oh, Lamar, I’m so happy for you! Congratulations! I love you so much and have always enjoyed your calls. I’ve been a listener since you first came on the air. Sadly, this is celebratory your photo, as it appears on my desktop monitor:

Waited 25 years, and this is what you get. 🙁
It only goes up from here, my friend!

  • Wow Lamar! What a beautiful story! This just warms my heart. Thank you for sharing! As I read this, I could actually hear your voice.
I too have been listening to Bob and Sheri for a good many years. While I have never actually met them, every time I hear their voices, I feel as if we are family! I’m convinced we are siblings from other mothers, 😆. The reminders of the dysfunctional families we all grew up in and the childhood experiences. It’s like nostalgia when I hear them talk, taking me back to my own childhood. I thank God every day for my many blessings, including the money to pay for therapy and ears to hear ya’ll on my radio every morning!

    Good bless all of you!

  • I don’t know when the first time Lamar called in was, but the first time I remember it was something about a coffee table that converted to a TV tray type table and laughing a lot at his story telling!! Have always enjoyed a good Lamar story. Glad he is getting a chance to tell them all the time now.

  • I love your stories! As a Georgia girl, I can relate.
I didn’t think the show could be anymore entertaining then tada!! Lamar!!
    Welcome to the show.

  • I am not sure what it’s says about my life, but having Lamar on full time is one of the top events of my year. Thank you for bringing an extra dose of stories and laughs to my day.
Although I am retired, my dream is to get an internship (unpaid, even!) with the show so I can hang out with you all, too! 🤭

  • So happy that you are there. I still remember your gardening story…why you support farmers’s markets…and laugh when I think of it. As a girl growing up in the panhandle of Florida, I appreciate the work that goes into growing our food. Of course, old habits die hard and every year I still try to grow tomatoes…. This year’s crop of cherry tomatoes has provided with me exquisite flavor at $20 a piece.

  • I am so happy Lamar is full time on the show now. I used to go crazy on Fridays and shout at my boys, “we get to hear Lamar today!!” Love all of you. Thank you so much for the smile you put on my face every day. And Max, let’s go Phillies!!!

  • So glad you have joined! I remember driving to work and would get excited when you would call in. From owning the blockbuster video store and working at the beer company. You were always fun to listen to. Just the excitement in your voice shows what a great, fun person you are. Congrats!

  • They are blessed to have you join the show. I don’t get to listen everyday, but I certainly do enjoy my time with you all. I’ve been listening for years. When the original channel they were on quit airing the show, I hunted around & finally found it again. P.S. I always thought you were on the show!

  • Welcome aboard Lamar! Happy your dream came true. I’ve been listening to B&S since the 1990s, and they make me laugh with every episode. Hope they have the podcast for at least another 20 years. All of you guys are GREAT!!

  • Great accomplishment Lamar. Hope the youngun’s take notice that you can do anything with hard work and
    integrity.

  • I love listening to all of you guys on my way to work each morning. It makes my day of having to go to work so much better. LOL. The interaction between all of you is just hilarious. I can’t wait to hear it when you critique the movie of the week. You have such a way of explaining the movie that I think you could have been a great writer. I would read your book. 🙂 Thank you all for making my life just a little bit more cheery. Love you guys!

  • I have always loved hearing your movie reviews on the show and now I’m glad you are there full time! Hard work and dreams do pay off Lamar!

  • Welcome full-time Lamar – although all of us long-time listeners have already considered you to be part of the team. It’ll be great having you interject on a daily basis though. Budweiser’s loss is our gain!

  • I’m glad you are part of the team. I listen to y’all out of Durham NC and my signal is not always great. I miss listening to them broadcast live on their website rather than on podcast. It’s interesting hearing random things and discussions that aren’t political or heavy topics on the radio.

  • I listen every morning from Waterloo, IA. I love you guys so much, I wished there was less music with more Bob, Sheri and Lamar discussions, You guys’ rock! Congratulations Lamar on achieving your dream, you couldn’t do it with two better people! Congratulations on your retirement and this new journey in your life. My dream is to someday meet all of you in person, so PLEASE make a run to Iowa someday.

  • Bob and Sheri always make me laugh at the little things because they are relatable to the everyday person but you Lamar, will bring the ‘country boy’ aspect to the everyday person. This will be quite the entertainment show that the everyday person needs. If I am laughing out loud while I do my daily walk, then I only have the show to thank!!!

  • Absolutely tickled spiral sliced ham pink to have you in the show every single day!!!!!! Love the show and the entire cast of characters! Yes, I am that Margaret 😎😂

  • Lamar, I have enjoyed your input to the show for many years. I’m so happy that you’re now a full time member of my morning routine.

  • Lamar, you’re one of the reasons I started listening to the Bob & Sheri show. The People’s Movie Critic telling Tom Cruise that it’s not too late to join the “J” Team was THE BEST! Keep it up! You’re awesome!

  • Hey Lamar,
    Welcome full-time Lamar!
Although I have already considered you to be part of the team.
I’ve loved you as The Peoples Movie, You’re reviews on products you see on TV, and last but not least Talking Lamar. I hope didn’t miss anything.
I have to say I’ve been listening fir 25 years or more.
I talk about you all to family, friends, and coworkers that I think they actually think I’m friends with you.
Everyone on the Bob, Sheri, Max, Doc, & now Lamar are ALL amazing and I feel like you are all my friends.

  • Lamar,
So glad your second career is full-time on the best ever radio show. I’ve been a listener since you started calling the chatroom, so happy you will now be adding to the daily fun and laughter.

  • Welcome to the best morning radio show, I am so happy you are part of the group if I was already happy to hear them every morning now is even better. ❤️

  • Do you remember the old commercial: “When EF Hutton talks, people listen!” That’s how I feel in the morning when I hear Lamar’s voice. I love your humor, your theatrical insight, and your gourmet experiences. Keep it up Lamar.

  • So happy to have you on board full time.
You are like the relative we love to visit and now we hear your generous laugh every day.

  • I remember the days of you calling in! You were then and still are today so entertaining! I’m so happy for you Lamar!
    Congratulations!

  • Congrats Lamar! The start of your new career in retirement. I always looked forward to Friday’s because I knew I would be hearing Lamar. Now you are on everyday! Thank you for the shift and hopefully many, many years of talking, sharing and laughter are to come.

  • Hey Lamar, I remenber when I first saw you at a picnic Bob & Sheri had at a lake when they first started in the Hudson Valley on 98.5 The Cat. It must have been about 30 yrs ago. You were very friendly and upbeat. I have liked your movie reviews and other times you have been on the show very much. (I remember when your took over for Bob). You were made for this show. So glad you are on full time with your stories

  • Lamar I’m so happy that you are on the show full time! You bring in the south! Keep up all your hard work and keep us laughing!

  • That’s great! I didn’t know you were full time as I cannot listen like I used too at work. I should podcast more like we do when we take a road trip, it’s bob and Sheri for hours. I miss Todd though. I love Bob and Sheri. When I started listening Sheri was still married to mark. Bob I think was getting a divorce…. anyway, even tho I can’t listen everyday it’s still the Best Radio Show Ever! Happy Holidays to you!
