What is this blog about? Well, it's a general blog, but it is also a very specific blog. If you get that
reference, you get a gold star! I have been a public relations professional and writer of press
releases for more than 20 years—primarily in the booze biz. I decided to do some writing for
fun and embrace the humor that gets me through most days. Hopefully it will make you
chuckle—or at least smile. I’m a certified crazy magnet, and more than a little nutty myself, so
buckle up. Also, I have two vices—profanity and red wine/whiskey. You’ve been warned.
It should also be noted, that I’m a HUGE Bob & Sheri fan. I’ve been a listener for more than 20
years. This opportunity is a dream come true and it may have made me cry. That being said, I
cry at everything.
If you are into booze, dogs, food and/or knitting, hit me up on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter
(although I’m terrible at Twitter and it scares me) @kyspiritsgal. You can also find all my
previous blog posts at www.kyspiritsgal.com.

We are surrounded by people every day. Sometimes that is good. Sometimes that is bad. It is
particularly awesome to be surrounded by “your people.” Those are times to relish and really
appreciate.
I’m in the middle of a week with my people. I’m at the beach with my mom, bonus dad, aunt
and sister. I have not laughed this much in ages. It feels so good.
It is so relaxing and freeing to just be able to be me and do my thing surrounded by people I
love. Yes, there is still judgment and criticism, but when it comes as a laugh from those you
love, it just hits differently.
Sure, there are also disagreements. My sister is OCD AF. She takes your plate or mug before you
are done eating to put it in the dishwasher because she can’t stand your mess. It is wearing on
me, but I love her. I’m trying really hard to respect her crazy. Lord knows I have my own heap of
crazy they have to deal with.
We are halfway through our vacation. We have had a blast. The weather has been a delight and
the company is good.
The first full day here I cooked a family meal for everyone. It was met with rave reviews. This is
honestly all I need to be happy. Food is my love language. To be able to cook for four of my
favorite humans is a gift. To have them love what I prepared is just icing on the cake.
My sister told me she would remember that meal as one of the best she has ever had
accompanied by one of her best days. That made me cry. This is a dream for me.
Tonight, we went out for a delightful dinner. We laughed and enjoyed the efforts of a fantastic
chef. This was fantastic in a whole different way. Food bonds people.
As you can tell, I love food. It brings people together and makes them happy—if it is done right.
So far, we are batting a thousand.
Today I was on the beach by myself just reflecting on how lucky I am to have this opportunity to
spend such a good time with some of the people I love most. It almost made me forget about
the screaming toddler twins nearby.
This is the third family vacation I have taken. I was reluctant to start this tradition, but could not
be more pleased that we have. Countless memories have been made and much fun has been
had.

Life is short in the grand scheme of things. I’m glad I have a life filled with so much love and
crazy. It keeps me going and makes me whole.
I still have four more days with this bunch. I want to absorb and appreciate every second. I was
blessed with a great family who loves me and accepts all my nonsense. I’m so grateful for that.
Whether at the beach or back home in Kentucky. I know I have my posse. I would not trade
them for anything.
