One of my favorite self-care rituals is opening my monthly subscription box from Mindful Souls. Each month brings a surprise with a mix of crystals, jewelry, affirmation cards, and other beautiful tools that feel like little nudges from the Universe.
A few months ago, one of those surprises was the ‘Soul Bridges’ card deck. At first glance, it looked like a playful tool for journaling or conversation. But as I started using it, I quickly realized it was something more. Created to help us explore the beautiful complexity of being human, this deck touches on themes like Express, Connect, Overcome, Dream, Be, and Play.
Today’s card? Landed in the Play category:
“What’s the weirdest food combination you actually enjoy eating?”
It made me laugh and then made me think. Because sometimes, it’s the silliest questions that reveal the most about us.
So, here’s my honest answer.
Apparently, it’s strange that I dip french fries in yellow mustard. Not fancy mustard. Not ranch. Just that classic, bright yellow, tangy stuff you’d find at a summer BBQ. There’s something about the mix of hot, salty fry and zingy mustard that just works for me. It’s bold. It’s nostalgic. It’s mine.
And then there’s this: I love scooping artichoke hearts straight out of the jar and placing them gently on tortilla chips. No sauce. No prep. Just briny, earthy goodness atop a crispy chip. It’s not traditional. But it is delicious and oddly satisfying. Like rustic tapas, with zero effort.
Now, you might be wondering what this has to do with healing or soul work.
Actually? Everything.
Because what we enjoy, especially in private, especially the weird stuff, often connects us to memory, emotion, identity. Our taste preferences carry stories: of comfort, of rebellion, of family, of freedom. And in my work as a Reiki Master and spiritual coach, I’m always encouraging people to honor all of themselves not just the polished parts.
That’s why I love that this card came from the Play category. It reminded me how important it is to embrace our quirks. Healing isn’t just about deep revelations and shadow work; it’s also about joy. Delight. Silly little preferences that make us feel more like us.
And let’s be honest, when we share our strange habits, it often sparks connection. You either get a gasp of “What?!” or a grin of “Me too!” Suddenly, you’re not weird. You’re human. And that’s where connection lives.
So here I am, sharing mine. Fries and mustard. Chips and artichokes. My sacred snacks.
Now I want to hear from you.
What’s the weirdest food combo that you secretly (or proudly) love?
Whether you’re a longtime mustard-dipper like me or have your own snack secrets, I invite you to share.
You might be surprised how many people out there share your “flavor of weird.”
If you’ve landed here for the first time, welcome! This is the kind of real, soulful (and sometimes silly) conversation we love to have around here. You can find more prompts like this and the occasional mystical snack confession on my socials.
Let’s celebrate the quirky, comforting, delicious ways we stay connected to ourselves.
Joy is sacred.
And your weirdness? That’s soul nourishment, too.
Thanks for being here and sharing a little of your “weird” with me. If you enjoyed this post, there’s plenty more where that came from, everything from soulful healing tips to playful prompts and real conversations about life.
