A lot of TV mom clips pop up on my Facebook Reels. I appreciate them. I like to see others’ parenting styles, even if it is only fictional. Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of Kitty Forman from That 70’s Show. She may be my spirit mother.
I was living in Japan when That 70’s Show originally aired, so I didn’t see much of it, but I’ve watched a lot of reruns. It’s a brilliant show. Here’s the thing. When I watched most of these reruns, I was much younger, and while Kitty amused me, I didn’t understand the full depth of the legend that is Kitty Forman. Now I totally get Kitty’s deal.
Let’s just be clear. Kitty was all up in some menopause. She was a raging lunatic. I’m totally here for it. As I watch the clips now, I howl with laughter because I realize I am Kitty Forman.
I’m tired of my family being ingrates on the nights I decide to do a low-key dinner. Hello, tacos. I’m tired of people forgetting important days. I’m tired of people expecting me to remember everything. Basically, I’m itching for a fight at every turn. Why? Because my family drops the ball and I’m menopausal! I can’t do it all.
Most of the time they are pretty good, but when they fail, it is epic. I work hard for my family every damn day, so I expect them to come through on the big days. Most of the time they do, but when they don’t, I may rage. Kitty gets it.
Kitty is constantly trying to do right by her family, but she is always on edge. Her husband, Red, is clueless. He does seem to try, but he is always on the verge of sticking his foot in his mouth. This honestly may be most men. My husband really tries for the most part, but when he fails, boy howdy!
I know dealing with a menopausal woman is dicey at best, but you’ve got to try. As bad as you think you have it for even having to interact with a menopausal woman, trust me, it’s 10 times worse for the woman actually experiencing menopause.
It is just my humble opinion that menopause is the worst thing that can ever happen to an individual. It’s fucking bad.
I know there are tales of women who love menopause and feel liberated. I call horse shit on that. Menopause is the worst. There is nothing good about it in my experience. I just want it to be over and to hopefully get some normalcy back in my life.
I’m tired of being tired. I’m tired of being grouchy and tired of experiencing uncontrollable rage or unexplainable sadness. I never know what a new day will bring—anxiety, depression, sadness, or even fucking joy. It’s anyone’s guess.
God bless Kitty Forman. She tries to be a great mom. She is not only a good mom to her kids, but also her kids’ friends. She is a fucking trooper.
I will go on about my menopausal business with Kitty in mind. She was a freaking loon, but keep in mind it was the 70s. No hormones. I have hormones, and I’m still a raging loon.
I will continue to embrace every Kitty Forman Reel that pops up on my feed and know I am not alone. Kitty is feeling all her feelings and so am I, by God. Life is hard, and menopause is even harder. Long live Kitty Forman and all her spirit sisters like me. Our families should be scared of us. We are loose cannons, and you can’t handle the menopause truth!
