AuthorMom Outnumbered

Hi!
My name is Kerri Green;
Wife to Justin, and mother to four highly entertaining daughters
-Alena, Chloe, Tessa, and Paige.
I am an artist, a writer, a daycare provider,
a lover of people, a believer that there is humor and beauty in all things,
and the author of Mom Outnumbered;
a blog about real family life, and my observations of it.
My goal is to make people laugh,
to be there for them when they cry,
and most importantly,
to let them know that they are not at all alone in this up and down world.
I live with my family in Sebastopol California, and I am opening the window into our life.
So welcome!
Come in.
Sit down.
Just please don’t mind the mysterious wet spots.

What Makes A Champion

She had been having a hard time for days; Frustrated face, tears constantly threatening to brim her eyes. After several times of her answering “Nothing’s wrong! I’m just having a bad day for some reason,” I made a plan with her to take her ball and...

Stop Fighting the Girbil

I often envy the parenting style of the 80’s and 90’s. Helicoptering was never a thing I intended, and yet, sometimes, I feel like here I am. I’m not sure how I got to the point of thinking I had to micromanage all of my teenager’s plans...

Preteen Battleground

When it comes to the most intense parenting years, I would say I am in the thick of them. This is, of course, not including parenting age 3, which is in its own “war crime” category. Like the Voldemort of ages: We try not to speak of it. Right now I...

The Edge of Everything

The words have hung inside me since you casually said them the other day. You, smiling over your shoulder at me, pleased. Me, struck in the gut by the realization of the weight of what you had just said. Things land differently on a mother’s than...

Step Out

We missed an important email, and showed up late to indoor soccer this week. My 11 year old, Paige, looked at me with heavy disappointment. Her love of soccer is almost all she knows. I apologized to her, and checked my spam folder. Still not sure...

Somewhere Above

I’m sure it was because he was over hearing us go back and forth about it. My girls have grown tired of me always wanting to take photos of them. The fifteen year old will almost certainly be rolling or closing her eyes with her arms crossed in the...

Wake Me Up When January is Done

In case my family looks at me with those confused expressions again when I say I am tired, might I present this as a short memoir; As a “cave drawing” of sorts. Somehow, my level of exhaustion never feels like a factor to them, even though they...

Home For Christmas

The year after the massive wildfire took out half our city, rent prices soared. There were not enough homes still standing to ever meet the demand. My mother had been on a tightly fixed income for years, and was finding that (even though this area...

Waiting Room

From the very first moment, I pictured myself being there to witness the baby being born. Immediately after my daughter had handed me a plastic Target bag saying she “got something for me,” revealing two positive pregnancy tests inside (as soon as I...

Staycation Sign-up

Today my husband and youngest daughter are set to return home from an overnight stay in the redwoods for Outdoor Education. That means that today is also the end of, what I like to think of as, my Annual Personal Staycation. From the time my husband...
