Hello and welcome to The Zen Den. My name is Alison and while I am passionate about many things, my most inspiring driving force is human connection. Blogger, content writer, orthopedic exercise specialist, motivational speaker, international yoga pro, published songwriter, avid poker player, mom and wife are just a few of my titles. But when I do my job at NASA, I am known simply as “The Fairy Zenmother” a role I deeply love because people invite me into their space to help them find their center, relax and stretch their muscles and destress their mind. Here in the blogosphere version of The Zen Den, I invite you into my world where I will explore ideas for creating a better tomorrow and a kinder today. And hopefully, with insight, authenticity and humor; my words, observations and experiences will help you feel calm, centered, intellectually challenged and spiritually enlightened. Alternatively, if you have something you would like to see covered in The Zen Den, just let me know. Your feedback is welcome and valuable to the success of this blog. Finally, my heart is filled with gratitude to have this opportunity to share with all of you.

Do you have a soul gardener in your life?

Soul gardeners live a life of intentional nurturing of others. To these compassionate connectors “you reap what you sow” isn’t just a salient quip to point out the negative consequences of one’s actions; it is an embedded code of conduct, their reality . . . their organic flow of life. Their truth is quite simple. “Sow seeds of kindness and the world will become a kinder place.”

I love the joy of being in their presence. Gracious words, like a river naturally stream from their heart and water my hidden parched areas. Dormant seeds suddenly begin to emerge into my conscience . . . “YES, this is truth, this is positivity, and this is the life I want to grow in my mental garden!”

In a world where you and I are saturated with self-help “experts” we can find ourselves drowning in a sea of hyperbole, superficial “how to” tips and gratuitous guides to live the perfect life. And while there may be an occasional seed falling on fertile ground – there are professional pruners just waiting to chop off your newly formed bloom. You know them; they are the type who must dominate no matter the cost . . . their words feel more like knives in your back rather than sweetness to your soul.

We all need someone in our life who not only takes the time to listen to us but is ready with the watering can to saturate us with words which nurture our better instincts.

Even if we only have one soul gardener in our close inner circle, our lives can be enriched by their gift. And in turn, if we open our hearts to the opportunity to learn, grow and evolve . . . the world may welcome yet another cultivator of compassion, kindness, love and joy. Goals!

Today, walk away from the person determined to “cut off your bloom” and seek out the nurturer who is ready and willing to help your garden grow into a thing of beauty. Happy Gardening and Namaste Ya’ll!
