Hello and welcome to The Zen Den. My name is Alison and while I am passionate about many things, my most inspiring driving force is human connection. Blogger, content writer, orthopedic exercise specialist, motivational speaker, international yoga pro, published songwriter, avid poker player, mom and wife are just a few of my titles. But when I do my job at NASA, I am known simply as “The Fairy Zenmother” a role I deeply love because people invite me into their space to help them find their center, relax and stretch their muscles and destress their mind. Here in the blogosphere version of The Zen Den, I invite you into my world where I will explore ideas for creating a better tomorrow and a kinder today. And hopefully, with insight, authenticity and humor; my words, observations and experiences will help you feel calm, centered, intellectually challenged and spiritually enlightened. Alternatively, if you have something you would like to see covered in The Zen Den, just let me know. Your feedback is welcome and valuable to the success of this blog. Finally, my heart is filled with gratitude to have this opportunity to share with all of you.

Is it possible to have an open heart and a closed fist? Is it possible to have an open mind and a closed door?

Can one have a humble, meek, lowly spirit one moment and then a spirit of contention, divisiveness, arrogance and intolerance in the next breath?

Can one truly have faith in the source of love but then redefine that faith to fit a narrative of self-righteousness, rigidity, narrowness and condemnation of all who don’t follow the same path?

If God is love, is His love so small, so limited that it is truly only extended to those who believe their way is the only way to possess and experience it?

Is it possible that the purest of unconditional love can break through the hardest of hearts and heal the deepest of wounds? And that some people who don’t profess a faith in an invisible deity can indeed exude and extend that kind of selfless love to their fellow man?

These are questions I ponder day and night because I am driven to explore what I observe in human nature, in myself and in others.

One thing I am convinced of is there is no power, absolutely zero power in all of man’s belief systems, protestations of faith, adopted rules and ways of living, rituals, mantras, practices and prayers . . . if there is no practical manifestation of LOVE.

Posting scriptures, sharing religious memes, wearing crosses, walking around with a bible in hand, giving to the poor, being martyred for the faith, going to a building every single Sunday and religiously tithing . . . a l l . . . m e a n . . . z i p if we don’t have love for the most unlovable, if we can’t find it in our heart to say these words “I’m sorry, please forgive me.”

Genuine LOVE is pure, honest, open, selfless, forgiving, healing, powerful, unconditional, caring, kind, thoughtful, eternal and daily available if you choose and I choose to tap into it. Anything else is just a four letter word shaped like a heart.
