The idea for today’s newsletter comes from a good friend of mine, as I am not and have never been a pet owner. However, I have been well informed that for those of you who do own pets of any kind, there are many clutter issues that travel along with them, and my hope is to give you a system so that pet supplies do not end up overtaking your living space.
Now that we have all had a collective “awwwwww” moment, let’s get down to business, pet business!
Just because our pets do not stay in one place doesn’t mean that their supplies cannot have one place they call home. Creating a designated spot for your pet supplies is important so that you can easily find these items and also so that your home does not become cluttered with all the various things that accompany pet ownership. Leashes, toys, food and food/water bowls, medications all need a place to live in your home, whether that be a special little cubby area or another system that works such as a crate or box – remember the goal is to keep your pet’s things together.
Of course there will be some items that stray and remain in other places such as your pet’s beloved chew toy, but these should be exceptions not the rule. Your pet may even find comfort knowing that their things are in a designated spot, as this will help them know routines and where to find their stuff. If your pet has a particularly active day and you notice that many of their items such as leashes, toys or snack treats have ended up all over your home, take the time at the end of the day to right the ship and return them to where they belong – you may have to do this again and again but hey, we also have to unload the dishwasher again and again – such is life. Once you have a pet area, it will be easy to maintain, and items that may stray can be discovered and easily returned.
Now go cuddle that cute pet of yours!
