What is this blog about? Well, it's a general blog, but it is also a very specific blog. If you get that
reference, you get a gold star! I have been a public relations professional and writer of press
releases for more than 20 years—primarily in the booze biz. I decided to do some writing for
fun and embrace the humor that gets me through most days. Hopefully it will make you
chuckle—or at least smile. I’m a certified crazy magnet, and more than a little nutty myself, so
buckle up. Also, I have two vices—profanity and red wine/whiskey. You’ve been warned.
It should also be noted, that I’m a HUGE Bob & Sheri fan. I’ve been a listener for more than 20
years. This opportunity is a dream come true and it may have made me cry. That being said, I
cry at everything.
If you are into booze, dogs, food and/or knitting, hit me up on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter
(although I’m terrible at Twitter and it scares me) @kyspiritsgal. You can also find all my
previous blog posts at www.kyspiritsgal.com.

The Roar of the Crowd

As I have stated before, I really hate this time of year. I’m cold. I’m sad. Everything hurts and I’m dying. Overall, I’m just fucking grouchy. However, there is one thing that helps see me through the dark days of winter: sports. We are big sports...

Que?

It has been my goal to learn a second language for as long as I can remember. I took two years of Spanish in high school, followed by one semester in college. I do not speak Spanish. Learning another language is fucking hard, y’all. After my failed...

Not My Father’s Son

My dad wanted a boy more than anything in the world. He had three girls. Life is cruel, but my dad persevered. I guess it could be said he was ahead of his time and wanted gender equality. However, at the end of the day, he just wanted someone to do...

Voices In My Head

I’ve always been a big reader. As soon as I finish one book, I dive into another. I just love the act of reading. However, the pandemic has really jacked up my attention span. I’m still reading books, but more slowly. In an effort to continue to...

Ode to the 80s

I was born in 1972. I have very few memories of the 70s, but I remember the 80s like they were yesterday. They were pretty unforgettable. There are several touchstones of the 80s for us Gen Xers. Big hair, loud clothing, questionable music, Phil...

Not Your Average Granny

My husband often reminisces about how sweet his Granny was. He will say things like, “She would have done anything for you,” or “She never had a bad word to say.” I loved my Granny dearly and we were tight AF, but this was not my experience. My...

Real Time Problems

It’s just an hour. Can an hour make that much difference in the grand scheme of things? Apparently. The hour in question is the time difference between Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) and Central Daylight Time (CDT). All my family lives in EDT, yet we...

Simply the Best

I can be a bit obsessive. I know this will probably not come as a big shock to those who know me or have been kind enough to read my nonsense. Much of it stems from my anxiety, but believe it or not, some of the things I obsess over actually bring...

We Don’t Rent Pigs

Larry McMurtry is my favorite author. He has been for nearly three decades. We lost his genius last year. It still makes me sad to know there will be no new books from this man. He took me on so many memorable trips and gave me some of the best...
