What is this blog about? Well, it's a general blog, but it is also a very specific blog. If you get that
reference, you get a gold star! I have been a public relations professional and writer of press
releases for more than 20 years—primarily in the booze biz. I decided to do some writing for
fun and embrace the humor that gets me through most days. Hopefully it will make you
chuckle—or at least smile. I’m a certified crazy magnet, and more than a little nutty myself, so
buckle up. Also, I have two vices—profanity and red wine/whiskey. You’ve been warned.
It should also be noted, that I’m a HUGE Bob & Sheri fan. I’ve been a listener for more than 20
years. This opportunity is a dream come true and it may have made me cry. That being said, I
cry at everything.
If you are into booze, dogs, food and/or knitting, hit me up on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter
(although I’m terrible at Twitter and it scares me) @kyspiritsgal. You can also find all my
previous blog posts at www.kyspiritsgal.com.

What Are You Waiting For?

I love books, but I’m weird about reading them. Not all books, but books by my favorite authors. I have to pace myself for fear of running out of their work. Larry McMurtry is the perfect example of this. He has been my favorite writer for more than...

Not My Jam

There are certain things I want to like for a wide variety of reasons. Reasons such as, it’s fun or it’s good for me or even it’s just a way to pass the time. In my advanced age, I have realized, some shit just isn’t my jam. The latest addition to...

Nature Versus Nurture

I have one child. My daughter, Josie, is now 18. She was adopted from China. We brought her home when she was 15 months old. I believe with my whole heart she was meant to be ours and there is not another child on the planet who would fit better in...

Four Old Guys on a Mountain

I have always bought my daughter educational gifts and toys. And books. Oh, so many books. At times some of my purchases may not have been age-appropriate, but she has always been an old soul. So, I never really worried about it. Once I was in...

What’s That Smell

Lots of things stink. I mean that literally, not figuratively. I was reminded of this recently in the car when my daughter took off her tennis shoes she has had for a while. A pair of cloth Nike’s that have gotten wet and dried on their own multiple...

Mad Skills

One of my best friends recently called me giddy with excitement. What was bringing her this joy? A new wood turning class she had just started. The next day our other friend called me to ask me if I had heard the news about the class. The reason...

Remember When

I was recently reading a book where the characters discuss their first memories. I don’t have a lot of early memories. The first really clear one I have; I would have been five years of age. That seems late, but I honestly can’t recall anything...

Your Owner’s Manual

I was on the phone recently with an old friend. As we were catching up, she was filling me in on her love life and a new relationship. Now, I’ve been married for 30 years, so I have not dated since the 90s. Listening to her talk about all the...

Road-tripping

My daughter is a senior in high school. Starting in spring break of her sophomore year, we began touring colleges. It has continued for the last two years. In that time, we have looked at 10 schools in eight different states and one in Canada. We...
