What is this blog about? Well, it's a general blog, but it is also a very specific blog. If you get that
reference, you get a gold star! I have been a public relations professional and writer of press
releases for more than 20 years—primarily in the booze biz. I decided to do some writing for
fun and embrace the humor that gets me through most days. Hopefully it will make you
chuckle—or at least smile. I’m a certified crazy magnet, and more than a little nutty myself, so
buckle up. Also, I have two vices—profanity and red wine/whiskey. You’ve been warned.
It should also be noted, that I’m a HUGE Bob & Sheri fan. I’ve been a listener for more than 20
years. This opportunity is a dream come true and it may have made me cry. That being said, I
cry at everything.
If you are into booze, dogs, food and/or knitting, hit me up on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter
(although I’m terrible at Twitter and it scares me) @kyspiritsgal. You can also find all my
previous blog posts at www.kyspiritsgal.com.

Peace Amongst the Rocks

Growing up my family did not do vacations. I was in high school when I saw the beach for the first time. I fell in love and immediately assumed the beach was my happy place and where I was the most relaxed and Zen-like—as Zen as a person with a...

Make New Friends

I love my daughter’s friends. When she went away to school, I had no idea I would become so invested in the lives of her friends, but here we are. I pull for them at every given opportunity. Josie has very good friends from where we live, but when...

The Room Where It Happens

In honor of Independence Day. I thought I would tell the story of a trip to Chicago with my crazy family to see a play about our founding fathers. Yes, Hamilton. The play was brilliant. We were a mess. Warning: My sister, Jaime, wields the F-bomb...

What Are You Waiting For?

I love books, but I’m weird about reading them. Not all books, but books by my favorite authors. I have to pace myself for fear of running out of their work. Larry McMurtry is the perfect example of this. He has been my favorite writer for more than...

Not My Jam

There are certain things I want to like for a wide variety of reasons. Reasons such as, it’s fun or it’s good for me or even it’s just a way to pass the time. In my advanced age, I have realized, some shit just isn’t my jam. The latest addition to...

Nature Versus Nurture

I have one child. My daughter, Josie, is now 18. She was adopted from China. We brought her home when she was 15 months old. I believe with my whole heart she was meant to be ours and there is not another child on the planet who would fit better in...

Four Old Guys on a Mountain

I have always bought my daughter educational gifts and toys. And books. Oh, so many books. At times some of my purchases may not have been age-appropriate, but she has always been an old soul. So, I never really worried about it. Once I was in...

What’s That Smell

Lots of things stink. I mean that literally, not figuratively. I was reminded of this recently in the car when my daughter took off her tennis shoes she has had for a while. A pair of cloth Nike’s that have gotten wet and dried on their own multiple...
