Our phones have literally become appendages of us – it is unusual for people not to have their phones on them at all times, and whether or not we like this, it’s reality. Let’s face it, iphones (or other similar facsimiles) are useful; they keep us connected, help us to get to where we are going – they are somewhat of a lifeline! Our phones entertain us and even operate as ways to purchase things in today’s world. It is important to keep our phones operating as efficiently as possible, and this means they need some decluttering from time to time.
Application Overload
One of the simplest ways to start this task is with your apps – go through and see what apps you actually need and which ones can be deleted. No need to have your phone cluttered with a bunch of apps that you aren’t using, or ones that you used once and just forgot to delete.
Emails
I have covered decluttering emails in a previous newsletter, but if you have not had an opportunity to complete this task, now is the time!
Voicemails
If you are like me and keep your phone on Do Not Disturb quite often, you may have missed a call or two…or three! Take the time to check your voicemails to see if this has happened as you may be missing an important call. Deal with any messages you may have to return, and also, take the time to delete any messages that you no longer need. It is also a good idea to check your voicemails weekly or every two weeks as sometimes messages can be in there that we aren’t aware of.
Close the Window!
This one may seem obvious, but take the time to see if you have any open windows on your phone. I personally seem to forget to do this and often have 20 plus windows open on my phone at all times, which surely does not help with my phone’s functionality.
Manage your Media
We all tend to download music, movies, and other things when we travel or otherwise, but what we may not do is delete these storage suckers from our phones when we are finished with them. Take the time to ensure that any Netflix or Prime movies that you may have downloaded get deleted, and the same goes for any other items such as podcasts you have listened to, music, and so forth.
Last but not least, you may find the following analogy helpful: think of your phone and its applications as a counter – we want to keep it clean and organized so we can find what we need when we need it- a decluttered phone is a decluttered counter!
