So a few of you know I’ve picked up gardening as a hobby. As an indoor human I needed something that would put me outside for a few hours a day in the sunshine and fresh air. Gardening is sort of in my bones and blood. My grandpa was the son of a farmer and an avid gardener himself. This house I live in was one he built and one my Father grew up in. Grandpa used to grow all sorts of vegetables here, but mostly green beans.
So this year I decided to give growing some beans a try. Along with Okra, tomatoes, squash, pickling cucumbers, Japanese eggplant, jalapeños and watermelon. Working in the garden has been sort of a theraputic experience for my Virgo soul, but its also been a labor of love. Through that I’ve gotten to meet and connect with a few of my neighbors who have not only lent a hand when it came to tilling up the rocky ground but also lending some advice and just sharing a laugh. I’m fairly introverted so chatting with the neighbors doesn’t at all come naturally to me, but having the garden has really opened me up to more than just growing different varieties of vegetable.
My grandpa, was an extrovert we often joked that he never met a stranger and I wonder if grandpa gained his charisma from all those years working in the garden, sharing with the neighbors and just being open to a good conversation or lending a hand when needed.
