For the Mom in the Shadows

Play episode

Hi!
My name is Kerri Green;
Wife to Justin, and mother to four highly entertaining daughters
-Alena, Chloe, Tessa, and Paige.
I am an artist, a writer, a daycare provider,
a lover of people, a believer that there is humor and beauty in all things,
and the author of Mom Outnumbered;
a blog about real family life, and my observations of it.
My goal is to make people laugh,
to be there for them when they cry,
and most importantly,
to let them know that they are not at all alone in this up and down world.
I live with my family in Sebastopol California, and I am opening the window into our life.
So welcome!
Come in.
Sit down.
Just please don’t mind the mysterious wet spots.

Some days will be sunshine
You’ll bask in the glow
How things could be better,
You just won’t know

Some days will be shadow
Chilly and gray
You might forget there were times when
It wasn’t this way

Some days will be soft
They’ll be easy to hold
Your hand will clasp theirs and it will
Fit like a mold
But, some days have edges that will slice
When you shift
You’ll both cling to life rafts
You’ll sense the slight the drift

Some days will feel magical
Brilliant, hand-picked bouquets
The air will swirl with laughter and
Affection displays

But some days will be silent
In ways that will ache
You’ll need some giving,
But they will only take

Some days you’ll feel music
In the depths of your soul
You will be restored
Joy will fill every hole that had been left by Those days when the music just stopped
Some days will feel like that day can’t be topped

But some days the holes might feel like
They’re only spreading
You’ll walk through the doors into
Rooms that you’re dreading
You’ll come face to face with a beast you Remember
You’ll pray for the sunshine
But it will still be December

Some days you’ll feel proud
It will swell like the tide
Blue, and so vast you can’t see to
The other side

But some days you’ll hang your head and
Hope no one knows
You’ll tuck away truth and
Wonder if it shows

Some days streets have shadows
Other days they have sun
Neither changes the destinations to which
You can run

Some days you’ll have children that
Can do no wrong
You’ll play all your notes and
They will sing the song
Of hope and of purpose and
It will keep you going

You may not see the shore yet
But please just keep rowing

Because no matter which day you are
Living today
Tomorrow is new and
You will find your way

And when you do
And your own head is lifted
I hope you find another mom stuck in the
Same places you drifted
And you tell her to just hold on a little longer
You will stay beside her and
She will get stronger

Some day someone will need to know what your Some Days have made you
Some day someone will need to hear
“I was afraid, too.”

They’ll need a story and
Yours will be the one
That says
“I know that it’s dark there,
But here comes the sun.”
