Dear 2021,

I hope that we can be friends.

I was trying to come up with something clever to say about the past year, but hell, y’all, what is there to say that hasn’t been said.

I didn’t learn a new language or become a guitar virtuoso. I baked not one loaf of sourdough bread. My book is still unfinished. And, my home remains a place where plants go to die. I miss hugs from my friends and my family so damn much. I celebrated Christmas with my in-laws at a rest stop – while wearing a mask.

However, it wasn’t all bad. Although there are days when I am certain that my daughter says 7,490,826 words to me, I will always be happy that we got to spend so much extra time together. She makes me belly laugh every day.

My husband and I may have plotted each other’s “disappearances” a time or two over the past nine months, we’ve also gotten to be even better friends. We’ve been each other’s support system during the ebb and flows of our sanity.

And, folks, I can’t lie, in many ways, I am built for that quarantine life. I am indoorsy. And, as such, this time period has provided me with time to indulge in some of my favorite hobbies: books, TV, movies and podcasts:
