In Canada where I live, the day after Christmas is known as Boxing Day and it is typically a day where retailers have big sales. There are many deals to be had and the stores turn into hectic zones with everybody trying to take part in the deals. Post holiday shopping is not unique to Canada, and it is usual to find deals of all kinds after Christmas as inventory needs to be moved along. As well, after Christmas is over for the year Boxing day serves a good purpose for retailers as it encourages people to shop and spend.
So before you head out for this post holiday shopping fun, this is an excellent opportunity to make room and declutter in anticipation of maybe picking up some new things! Heading out for some new pants or shoes? Get rid of a pair or two that you have and no longer need. Think of it this way: something comes in, something has to go out – balance! If you are looking for some new placemats, it is either because you don’t have any or you don’t like and are not using the ones that you already have, so get rid of said items. This principle can apply to almost everything – one in one out. The reason we often need something is because we either do not have the ‘thing’ or we do not like the thing we already have. Once we have gotten rid of these no longer needed or wanted items, we have space and a place to put new things that we will use and enjoy. So remember, it is great to buy new things, but it is equally great to get rid of items in our closet or elsewhere that we no longer need. Last but not least, happy shopping!!
Aside from helping with all of our decluttering needs, Avery hosts the Journey Into Yoga Podcast where she guides you through a different yoga pose each week explaining all that it has to offer the body and mind. Episodes and more can be found at averyrich.com. Check out this week’s show where Avery continues the journey through the poses that make up a sun salute, moving to uttanasana (standing forward fold) and ardha uttanasana (standing half forward fold).
