Every morning while I’m getting ready for the day, the Bob and Sheri Show is playing in the background—my steady morning companions. But in between their stories, laughter, and thoughtful segments, the station sneaks in something else that shifts my energy entirely: music.
The other day, Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter came on—and I couldn’t help but move. It wasn’t about the lyrics (though they’re cheeky fun)—it was the beat, the bounce, the kind of rhythm that makes you dance even when you’re brushing your teeth. Just like that, I was smiling, energized, and feeling like I had a little more spring in my step.
And honestly? The name of the song helped me anticipate that first warm sip of coffee. Espresso playing before espresso drinking—it was a perfect little alignment that made the start of my day feel just right.
Sound is funny like that. It can change us.
I’ve long believed that healing doesn’t always look the way people expect it to. It’s not always deep breaths and solemn silence. Sometimes, it’s a 3-minute dance break in the bathroom. Sometimes, it’s singing in the car at full volume, not caring who sees. Sometimes, it’s the voice of someone who makes you laugh just when you thought you couldn’t.
As a Reiki Master and spiritual coach, I’ve seen the power of sound firsthand. A soft hum during a session. A whispered affirmation. The release that comes from sighing deeply—or even toning a vowel to ground back into the body. Sound bypasses logic and goes straight to the nervous system. It regulates, settles, uplifts, and energizes—all in ways we often don’t realize.
Even silence has a sound. And it, too, has power.
Music, voice, and vibration are ancient tools. Before we had therapy apps and podcasts, we had rhythm, drums, chants. We had lullabies and love songs and shared radio singalongs. There’s something primal and sacred about the way we respond to sound. It’s part of how we know we’re alive.
That’s why I tell my clients: have a reset song. You don’t need to overthink it. It can be funny, nostalgic, edgy, or just plain catchy. What matters is how it makes you feel. For me, right now, it’s Espresso. It snaps me out of a funk, gets my shoulders moving, and reminds me that joy doesn’t need a reason.
The other kind of sound healing I often recommend is more meditative—like listening to binaural beats or 432Hz/528Hz frequency music. If you’re curious, try searching YouTube for something like “Hz for sleep,” “Hz for focus,” or “Hz for anxiety.” There are entire channels dedicated to these healing tones. Let your body be the guide—if something resonates, you’ll feel it. If not, try another. It’s all about experimenting until you find the frequencies that work for you.
So I’ll leave you with this:
Next time you feel off, play a song that once made you dance—better yet, play it twice. Let your body respond. Let your energy shift. And know that healing doesn’t always whisper. Sometimes, it sings.
