November has been a hateful, spiteful month for me. The eleventh month took my mom and my little brother from me. Therefore, it is hard not to hold my breath as Halloween comes to a close and we flip the calendar over.

However, as I was sitting on the porch with my husband the other night, I was struck by how fortunate and grateful that I am for the calm, secure life that we have built. And, while November will probably always put a knot in my stomach, it is getting more bearable. It reminds me that because we never know when bad things are going to happen, we should take time to be thankful for the little things in life that bring us joy.
