Sosha Lewis is a writer whose work has been featured in The Washington Post, Huffington Post, MUTHA Magazine and The Charlotte Observer.

She writes about her sometimes wild, sometimes hilarious, sometimes heartbreaking past filled with free-lunches, a grimy sports bar, a six foot tall Albino woman who tried to save her teenage soul, felonious, drug addicted parents, an imaginary friend named Blueberry and growing up nestled in the coal-dusted mountains of West Virginia.

Let’s just get this out of the way…I am extremely, unimaginably thankful for the life that I get to lead. I am thankful for my husband and my daughter. I am thankful for my friends and family. And, I give thanks every week that have the opportunity to write for Bob & Sheri and connect with so many wonderful people.

However, I wanna take the big ones off the table because if you’re not thankful for your friends and family, your health, your shelter, having plenty to eat you’re probably just a terrible person anyway. For the sake of this article, I want to concentrate on the small things that make life more enjoyable.

I am thankful for:

  • A good cup of coffee.
  • Books, books, books.
  • My huge, comfortable bed.
  • Our rose bushes.
  • Cheese Danishes.
  • Hip Hop.
  • Tide.
  • Movies.
  • Seat warmers.
  • Sneakers.
  • Netflix.
  • Dresses with pockets.
  • Amazon Prime.
  • Comfortable pajamas.
  • Lazy Sundays.
  • A good hoodie.
  • Text messaging.
  • Those who stay.
  • Cold beers by the pool.
  • Bluefield Dairy Queen Hot Dogs.
  • Red wine.
  • The fight for justice and equality.
  • Quirky coffee mugs.
  • Decorative gourd season.
  • Red lipstick.
  • Laughing until sound stops coming out.
  • Crossfit Jane.
  • Taking control of my health.
  • New York City.
  • Perfectly smooth blankets of snow.
  • My college experience.
  • Clark Wallabees.
  • Pictures.
  • Forgiveness.
  • The Notorious RBG.
  • Button downs.
  • Tattoos.
  • Broken-in blankets.
  • Sex.
  • White towels that smell like bleach.
  • My Favorite Murder.
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream.
  • Knowing how to walk in heels.
  • Concerts.
  • Trips to Colorado to celebrate my soul sister.
  • Friends who lift weights and spirts.
  • Leather jackets.
  • Swimming pools.
  • Good toilet paper.
  • Christmas trees.
  • Pens.
  • Elkhurst.
  • Songs that remind me of specific people.
  • Loyalty.
  • A good cry.
  • Cheerleaders.
  • Sunscreen.
  • An extra bedroom.

And, I am thankful that I am finally free of the bitterness and anger and sadness that controlled me for so many years and that I know exactly how fortunate I am to go through this short but incredibly magical time on this planet with people who make me feel warmer than a spring day.

Happy Thanksgiving!
