What is this blog about? Well, it's a general blog, but it is also a very specific blog. If you get that
reference, you get a gold star! I have been a public relations professional and writer of press
releases for more than 20 years—primarily in the booze biz. I decided to do some writing for
fun and embrace the humor that gets me through most days. Hopefully it will make you
chuckle—or at least smile. I’m a certified crazy magnet, and more than a little nutty myself, so
buckle up. Also, I have two vices—profanity and red wine/whiskey. You’ve been warned.
It should also be noted, that I’m a HUGE Bob & Sheri fan. I’ve been a listener for more than 20
years. This opportunity is a dream come true and it may have made me cry. That being said, I
cry at everything.
If you are into booze, dogs, food and/or knitting, hit me up on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter

I may be becoming dependent on apps. In my defense, many on my devices are practical and help make life just a little easier. I’m also a fan of apps for self-improvement.

There are certain apps you just have to have on your phone. I mean, seriously, who does not have a weather app? Also, since I’m forbidden from doing math in 37 states, a calculator. Duh. Then there are the obligatory social media apps, but I’m not even getting into that.

I find myself more and more often, when faced with a challenge, thinking, “Surely there is an app that can help.”

Just this week while reading a book I was remind of my lackluster geography skills. I immediately took to the App Store and downloaded an app of maps that will help me learn where shit is located (I’m looking at you Belarus). I’m happy to report, Europe and I are getting quite friendly.

As I have mentioned before, I’m religious about using my language, meditation and sleep story apps. All these have helped improve my life. I would wrestle you before giving them up.

I do have some more random apps. For example, I have an app that will identify trees and plants by just taking a picture of their leaves. I fancy myself an armature botanist. I also have an app to download knitting patterns. To partner with that app, I have one that keeps track of the rows I have knitted as to not fuck up said knitting patterns.

Recently, I sat down and reviewed my apps. I found that I have several health/exercise apps. I have everything from a calorie counter, to a running assistant, to one that tells me when I need new running shoes. Are all these necessary? Probably not, but they are handy AF.

As a food enthusiast, I have serval apps to help in that arena. This includes multiple recipe apps as well as those that help me pick restaurants whilst traveling. Oh, and I have multiple traveling apps that streamline the whole vacationing process.

Then there is shopping. I will be the first to admit I am pretty bougie. This means I can’t get a lot of the fancy-pants stuff I like locally, so I have lots of apps to bring that shit to me. I will not be denied Smartwool socks or saffron threads!

Now let’s talk entertainment. I have a ton in this category. Of course, all my streaming services are readily available. And I would be lost without my music, audiobooks and podcast apps! Seriously, how did I make it the majority of my life without this stuff. Yeah, I know. I had a Walkman, but for reals, all the music and TV at my fingertips!? The 12-year-old me would have lost her damn mind.

I do worry I’m becoming too dependent on my phone and other devices. My screen time reports often make me cringe. I don’t think there is any going back though. This is the age in which we live. I’m not necessarily proud of how dependent I have become of apps, but there will be plenty of time for guilt and regret after I have a firm grasp of where the hell Djibouti is on a map.
