The kids are back to school and before we know it the seasons will start to change and the leaves will begin to fall, we often find ourselves reminiscing about the carefree days of summer. In the summer we seem to slow down a bit, more get togethers, going on walks, cook outs, swimming, some parents work from home during the summer months, or go into the office later in the morning, we stay up later, an overall of more carefree moments. But who says we have to leave behind the spirit of #SlowGirlSummer? With a little creativity and intention, we can carry those relaxed vibes into the colder months.
Bringing Slow Girl Summer into the fall and winter:
1. Cultivate Cozy Spaces: Create warm and inviting spaces in your home to encourage relaxation and comfort. Invest in soft blankets, plush cushions, and warm lighting to set the mood. By embracing a cozy atmosphere, you can enjoy leisurely activities like reading, watching movies, or simply snuggling up with a cup of hot cocoa.
2. Savor Seasonal Flavors: While summer may be known for its refreshing fruits, fall and winter offer an abundance of delightful flavors. Indulge in pumpkin spice lattes, cinnamon-infused desserts, and hearty soups that warm the soul. Taking the time to savor these seasonal treats can bring a sense of joy and mindfulness to your day. Get out your crockpot and make soups and stews in the morning to have ready by the time you get home from work.
3. Embrace Nature’s Beauty: Even as the weather gets colder in a lot of the US, nature continues to offer breathtaking sights. Take leisurely walks in the crisp air, admiring the changing colors of the foliage or the tranquility of snow-covered landscapes. Connecting with nature can help you maintain that slow and mindful approach to life. In the fall go apple picking, head to the pumpkin patches. For adults there are even wine corn stalk mazes, enjoy hayrides. In the winter go ice skating, sledding, skiing. Drive around admiring holiday lights. We don’t have to stay indoors just because it is cold outside.
4. Unplug and Reconnect: Slow Girl Summer is all about being present and disconnecting from the constant noise of technology. Carry this principle forward by setting aside designated times to unplug from screens during fall and winter. Use this time to engage in hobbies, spend quality time with loved ones, or simply reflect and recharge.
5. Pursue Creative Projects: Embrace your creative side during the colder months by taking up arts and crafts projects. Whether it’s painting, knitting, writing, or any other artistic pursuit, engaging in creative activities can be a wonderful way to unwind and find joy in the process.
6. Create Time for Self-Care: Prioritize self-care and mindfulness, just as you would during Slow Girl Summer. Practice meditation, yoga, or gentle stretching routines to stay grounded and centered. Nurturing yourself during the fall and winter can lead to a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.
7. Organize Gatherings: Stay connected with friends and family, even if in-person gatherings aren’t as common during the colder months. Host movie nights, game nights, football watching parties, or even a cozy book club. These gatherings can keep the sense of community and togetherness alive.
As the seasons change, we don’t have to leave behind the essence ofÂ
#SlowGirlSummer. Embracing cozy spaces, savoring seasonal flavors, connecting with nature, and focusing on self-care can all help us maintain a relaxed and mindful approach to life throughout fall and winter. By incorporating these practices into our daily routines, we can continue to cultivate the spirit ofÂ
