What is this blog about? Well, it's a general blog, but it is also a very specific blog. If you get that
reference, you get a gold star! I have been a public relations professional and writer of press
releases for more than 20 years—primarily in the booze biz. I decided to do some writing for
fun and embrace the humor that gets me through most days. Hopefully it will make you
chuckle—or at least smile. I’m a certified crazy magnet, and more than a little nutty myself, so
buckle up. Also, I have two vices—profanity and red wine/whiskey. You’ve been warned.
It should also be noted, that I’m a HUGE Bob & Sheri fan. I’ve been a listener for more than 20
years. This opportunity is a dream come true and it may have made me cry. That being said, I
cry at everything.
If you are into booze, dogs, food and/or knitting, hit me up on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter
(although I’m terrible at Twitter and it scares me) @kyspiritsgal. You can also find all my

I’m a bit of a sports nut. So is my husband. It is probably one of the reasons we have been married for nearly 34 years. This past Sunday presented an epic problem: Super Bowl vs. Winter Olympics. What to watch, what to watch!? It was quite the dilemma.

I was deeply engrossed in figure skating upstairs whilst my husband was watching football pre-game downstairs. I sat crying as the US won gold in team figure skating. My husband yelled at me. Brandi Carlile was getting ready to perform America the Beautiful. That caused me to take a break and head for the TV in the basement. I love me some Brandie. She was brilliant.

I quickly became engrossed in Super Bowl coverage, but was nervous the whole time that I was missing Olympic greatness. I fucking love the Olympics. However, I can’t not watch the Super Bowl—even though I have no passion for either team playing. It’s crazy talk, but I’m a football girl.

So, I’m watching the Super Bowl and stressing about what I’m missing in the Olympics. I know I still have two more weeks of the Olympics, but what nincompoop made these two major sporting events overlap? A fool, I say! It’s too much.

Sure, I could double-screen it, but I hate to be that person. Then I’m not truly appreciating either thing I’m watching. I don’t like that. I might also miss some of the good Super Bowl commercials. I want to be focused on something.

I’m sure I’m not the only sports fan facing this epic choice. I know my bestie, who is just as big a sports person as I am, is freaking out, too. We have been texting all day about the Olympics and the Super Bowl. We live for this stuff!

Athletes are so amazing. I so wish I had some sort of athletic ability. It is a dream of mine. I would do anything to be an Olympian. I could finish last place in every event I competed in, and I would still have the Olympic rings tattooed on my damn forehead. For the record, Olympic rings are the only facial tattoo I would consider. One must be practical.

I guess the better way to look at it is, it’s a really good day for sports when you get both the Olympics and the Super Bowl. It’s still a hard choice. Luckily, I started my day at 8 a.m. with a U.S. curling win. As a side note, curling is my favorite Winter Olympics sport. There is just something about it. I know it is because I feel this is something I could actually do, but who are we kidding? I couldn’t do the splits and aim a rock at the circle. I would be far too focused on my pulled groin.

In short, it was a good day to be alive. Sports bring us together, and I’m forever grateful for that. I love most sports and will watch them all. I hate to have to choose. However, there are far worse things than having to choose between great athletes. I love these players and the joy they bring me when I watch them perform. Long live sports and their ability to bring us together.
