The year 2025 has been the year of comedy for the Traver family. I decided early in January to see as many funny people as possible because this world is a shit show and I need to laugh.
Thus far, I’ve seen Jim Gaffigan, Wanda Sykes and Fortune Feimster.
I was supposed to see Leanne Morgan, but the traffic was a shit show and I missed that one. The small city near me, which shall remain nameless, should be ashamed for not directing traffic for 12,000 people. Yes. I’m still pissed. That was the one I most wanted to see. I WILL see me some Leanne soon.
Alas, things got back on track this past weekend, and laugh I did. A lot. My husband and I went to Louisville to see one of our favorite comedians, Nate Bargatze. He was all I hoped for and more. This man is one of the funniest on the planet. He just oozes humor.
He was playing in an arena, and our seats were not good. Hey, I’m cheap, but a good time was still had by all. Thank goodness for Jumbotrons. I wish the air conditioning had been better. That high up in an arena is tough on a menopausal woman. Real tough.
Nate had four or five comedians doing short sets opening for him. They were all funny. However, the best was his dad, who is a magician and absolutely hilarious. I did not realize it, but Nate’s parents grew up in Louisville. His dad was emotional about being back home and performing in front of so many people. It was very sweet.
When Nate took the stage, the crowd went wild. He was hysterical. I love him so much and for so many reasons. One, he is just really funny. His deadpan humor and facial expressions tear me up. He is so great at storytelling and can make any story funny.
My favorite part of the show was when he read a long string of texts from a family chat group. I know the ridiculousness that goes on in my family chat group. It was nice to know I’m far from alone. Even Nate Bargatze can have some hilarious family drama going on, all while playing caddie for Jimmy Fallon at a celebrity golf tournament. No one escapes family drama!
One strange thing (for me) that I do appreciate about Nate is that he is a very clean comedian. Hey, I know I cuss like a sailor. I can also appreciate some raunchy humor, but sometimes all you want is good, clean fun. Nate brings that in spades. I love him for it.
I firmly believe laughter is always the best medicine. To laugh hard with 22,000 others is a real treat. I enjoyed every second and it let me escape this crazy-ass world for a brief while. I appreciate that.
Folks, if you’re going to spend money, do it on something that brings you joy. I cannot recommend a comedy show enough. I always feel like it is worth the price and I’m in a better mood for days. Thanks, Nate! See you in three weeks, Taylor Tomlinson!
