What is this blog about? Well, it's a general blog, but it is also a very specific blog. If you get that
reference, you get a gold star! I have been a public relations professional and writer of press
releases for more than 20 years—primarily in the booze biz. I decided to do some writing for
fun and embrace the humor that gets me through most days. Hopefully it will make you
chuckle—or at least smile. I’m a certified crazy magnet, and more than a little nutty myself, so
buckle up. Also, I have two vices—profanity and red wine/whiskey. You’ve been warned.
It should also be noted, that I’m a HUGE Bob & Sheri fan. I’ve been a listener for more than 20
years. This opportunity is a dream come true and it may have made me cry. That being said, I
cry at everything.

I’ve lost track of how many damn streaming services I now subscribe to. The worst part is, I watch very little TV. However, in the event I really do want to watch something it seems like it is always on a service I don’t have. So, I subscribe and rarely do I ever cancel a service. It’s just so much work.

I am constantly on the lookout for things both my husband and I would like to watch together. He loves action stuff, which I can do if there is humor. I prefer comedy. The world is dark and violent enough. I don’t need to see it on TV. Where this has landed us, is we are both down with a good murder mystery.

It all started with the brilliant Only Murders in the Building. Even our teenager loved it. We have enjoyed watching all three seasons together. I’m also glad my daughter now knows the genius of Steve Martin and Martin Short. We are anxiously awaiting the fourth season. Imagine our delight when we found out Eugene Levy was going to be part of the cast! Sorry. I digress.

In the meantime, I went searching for another show for me and my husband. Whilst on Hulu a trailer for a new show entitled Death and Other Details popped up. The gentleman featured looked familiar and I finally placed him as the great Mandy Patinkin.

Mandy will always be Iñigo Montoya in my book. I could watch The Princess Bride every damn day. Yet, he is a really good actor and I was curious to see him in a murder mystery. He did not disappoint.

My husband and I began watching the show. It was really good and Mandy was a delight. There were lots of twists and turns throughout, tons of surprises and the acting was great. I liked it so much; I got two of my besties watching it as well which led to great speculation and conversation with them. Win-win.

The show takes place on a meticulously restored cruise ship out at sea somewhere off the coast of Italy. It is absolutely beautiful to watch. While the scenery is great, the plot twists and tension that built with each episode were really good. And, oh the cliffhangers! There are 10 episodes and many of them ended with me yelling, “NO!”

I’m the worst at figuring out a mystery, but my husband has some skills in this department. However, this one left him at a loss too. When the big reveal was finally made, both of our mouths fell open and we said in unison, “I did not see that coming.”

I think maybe the reason I don’t watch a lot of TV is because the choices are just overwhelming these days. However, TV has never been better. We’ve come a long way from the three network channels I had as a kid. I need to explore all my streaming services more.

TV is a great break and escape. I think I have lost sight of that just from the fact that I’m overwhelmed when selecting and starting a new show. Menopause has also made it hard for me to focus, but that is a whole other story.

While I thoroughly enjoyed Death and Other Details, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t just a little disappointed that at the end Mandy did not break character and say, “My name is Iñigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.”
