Mother’s Day is my favorite day of the year. I love everything about it. I mean, hello! It’s a day all about me. What’s not to love? I anticipate this day every year. And make no mistakes, I get totally pissy when I am not cherished and pampered.
This year, my family brought their A game. They started with making me a delicious brunch of bacon, eggs, and biscuits. It was delightful. I sipped my tea and enjoyed my family’s company. I love a good meal with those I care about most.
Then, they lavished me with gifts, including an awesome Japanese cookbook and some socks that read, “Anxious and Sexy.” Truer words have never been spoken. I also got a “Horse Shit” sticker—one of my favorite phrases, and two blueberry bushes that my husband has already planted for me. They know me and what I like. This makes me very happy.
Apparently, it was touch and go on the gift front as they scoured our small town for stuff I would like. After their first stop, my husband looked at my daughter and said, “We’re fucked.” This is really a tough place to shop, but they recovered nicely. I could not love my gifts more. I’m grateful for their perseverance.
After brunch, we sat around the dining room table and talked for a couple of hours. These are the times I love the most. Just laughing and catching up with my family. It is so nice to have Josie home from school. I miss her so much. I’m so glad she is the one who made me a mom. She is my perfect daughter. She completes me.
Next on the agenda was an epic Sunday nap. It was so relaxing, and I’m not really a very good napper, but I crashed out and enjoyed every second of it—just me and three dogs surrounding me with love and cuddles. Dogs make everything better.
I spent the afternoon knitting and talking to Josie. I love hearing about all her friends and the nonsense they get into. Oh, how I miss my college years. Is there really a better time in life? Even though she is an engineer and works her ass off, she still manages to have fun and be silly. I appreciate that.
Josie made one of my favorite meals for dinner, upon request. Josie is a great little chef, and she prepared a delightful chicken katsu, which I scarfed down like I had not eaten in days. What can I say? I love good food. Josie has become quite a gourmet cook in college. I’m impressed with her skills. While she cooked, I sipped on a glass of my favorite wine. It was so relaxing. Thank goodness for great kids and good wine!
After dinner, we settled in for some Only Murders in the Building. This was the perfect ending to a perfect day. I’m so grateful for my family and how much they love me.
I look forward to Mother’s Day every year. It is the best. I could not ask for a better husband and daughter. I’m so proud of them both and eternally grateful that they both made me a mom.
