With thousands of self-help books available on Amazon, many of us may naively believe that all our problems can be solved by a mere click of the button. We can literally “buy in” to the narrative that if I just read this New York best-selling “how to” book – tomorrow I will be a more successful human being, a better person, more content than I am today.
However, when it comes to our physical fitness, our spiritual psychological well-being or the health of our intimate relationships – the truth is . . . there is no such thing as “once for all” or “finally I have attained” or “I have arrived”!
And while one of the most recent popular relationship books would have you believe there are only five love languages and everyone fits into one of those cookie cutter boxes. It is my experience people are more complex than that. What floats their boat on one day may sink their ship on the next.
On any given day your partner’s language may change due to external circumstances out of their control or inner turmoil they haven’t processed yet. And on top of that, even if you discover what your partner’s love language is . . .the ability to become fluent in their particular brand of love speak doesn’t guarantee less confrontation in the future – and that is based more on you and your reactiveness than it is on mastering their non-verbals.
Loves, health, mental balance, spiritual joy . . . all are a garden. The essence of your life is organic and requires daily tending and nurturing in order to thrive. If we ignore watering, pulling out the weeds, and chasing away critters that seek to destroy our beautiful seedlings – sure enough our garden will suffer.
Our seeds of love will cease to grow, our wellness will surely wither if we dare to think . . . good enough.
Life- our whole life, our very best life must be lived in the now, with awareness in the moment. While valuable lessons can be learned via a multitude of pathways – it is through the daily attention to those lessons . . . the actual practicing of recently acquired understanding and knowledge that we grow, blossom and bloom.
Happy Gardening!!
