Hello and welcome to The Zen Den. My name is Alison and while I am passionate about many things, my most inspiring driving force is human connection. Blogger, content writer, orthopedic exercise specialist, motivational speaker, international yoga pro, published songwriter, avid poker player, mom and wife are just a few of my titles. But when I do my job at NASA, I am known simply as “The Fairy Zenmother” a role I deeply love because people invite me into their space to help them find their center, relax and stretch their muscles and destress their mind. Here in the blogosphere version of The Zen Den, I invite you into my world where I will explore ideas for creating a better tomorrow and a kinder today. And hopefully, with insight, authenticity and humor; my words, observations and experiences will help you feel calm, centered, intellectually challenged and spiritually enlightened. Alternatively, if you have something you would like to see covered in The Zen Den, just let me know. Your feedback is welcome and valuable to the success of this blog. Finally, my heart is filled with gratitude to have this opportunity to share with all of you.

“The secret to having it all is believing you already do”

On any given day regarding any specific topic, most of us possess a point of view and if asked we will gladly express it. Depending on the subject matter, our views may change from day to day with new information or simply by a shift in our emotions.

Think of these different views like raindrops which fall from the sky of our beliefs – our core beliefs which make up our overriding mindset or life view. Some of us believe it is always raining on us – while others take a different path, one that says it’s not raining on me . . . it’s just raining.

These opposing mindsets produce very different outcomes. One serves to lift ourselves as well as others up and enhance our quality of life while the other works much to our detriment.

Pause for a moment and think about the happiest people you know. What do they have in common? Are they all multi-millionaires? Do they all have the perfect house, perfect spouse and perfect children? I’m confident the answer is no.

So what is it? What do satisfied, happy people have in common?

People who study human behavior have discovered that genuinely optimistic, happy people possess a mindset of abundance versus a mindset of scarcity or lack.

What does a mindset of abundance look like?

An abundance mindset person (AMP) believes that there is plenty of everything; love, relationships, wealth and opportunities to go around. They are those “cup half full” people who insist on living life to the fullest. They make an effort to choose happiness and gratitude over feeling victimized by life’s circumstances. The AMP is generous to a fault and genuinely rejoices in other people’s success. The AMP never wants to hold other’s down in order to feel good about his or herself, it just isn’t in their DNA.

What is your AMPtitude?

Do you embrace change or resist it? Do you celebrate or resent other’s success? Do you think big or constantly verbalize your limitations? Are you proactive to overcome obstacles or more reactive? Are you excited about opportunities around the corner or plagued with fear of failure?

Answering these questions will reveal whether you have a mindset of abundance or scarcity.

Optimist or pessimist, positive or negative, abundance or scarcity; these are all lanes on the same highway called “perspective.” While it may be quite difficult to make the change; which lane we choose to navigate our lives from, is ultimately up to us. The first step, as always, is becoming aware and then making the decision to do life differently.
