If we overinflate our expectations of an event such as the perfect meal, an amazing date, the best trip ever, a holiday family gathering . . . we are setting ourselves up for possible disappointment.
When we feel disappointed unfortunately we are susceptible to projecting that emotion onto others, those close to us who are supposed to “get it” to read our minds and know what we are hoping for.
This potential burst bubble happens because somehow the picture we create in our imaginations is always so MUCH MORE than reality. People are human and flawed, food offers momentary pleasure, the perfect kiss melts away minutes after delivered and so on.
But here is the really cool thing. The way you react to these circumstances is totally up to you. You can choose to let it blow your perfect event or you can shift your focus to all the wonderful, good things that did go right.
In every scenario, we can choose which cards we want to play. Playing the victim card is never fun for anyone.
So if we CHOOSE instead to live in the moment and truly be present in the now and find beauty in WHAT IS . . . we will be so much happier in heart and healthier in mind.
Perhaps there is no other season more appropriate to adopt and practice an attitude of gratitude.
Remember, just like anything in life worth accomplishing – gratitude takes practice.Might as well start today and say thank you for all the little things that bring a smile to your face.
Go for some gratitude today, have fun and enjoy the process!
