Hello and welcome to The Zen Den. My name is Alison and while I am passionate about many things, my most inspiring driving force is human connection. Blogger, content writer, orthopedic exercise specialist, motivational speaker, international yoga pro, published songwriter, avid poker player, mom and wife are just a few of my titles. But when I do my job at NASA, I am known simply as “The Fairy Zenmother” a role I deeply love because people invite me into their space to help them find their center, relax and stretch their muscles and destress their mind. Here in the blogosphere version of The Zen Den, I invite you into my world where I will explore ideas for creating a better tomorrow and a kinder today. And hopefully, with insight, authenticity and humor; my words, observations and experiences will help you feel calm, centered, intellectually challenged and spiritually enlightened. Alternatively, if you have something you would like to see covered in The Zen Den, just let me know. Your feedback is welcome and valuable to the success of this blog. Finally, my heart is filled with gratitude to have this opportunity to share with all of you.

Whether we want to lose a few pounds, eat a little better, save a little more money or simply to be a little kinder – welcoming a new year usually means reflection and reevaluation for most of us.

One thing data has taught us is we humans are great at making New Year’s resolutions but not so good at keeping them. 2020 being a whole new decade is the perfect opportunity to stop making resolutions and start taking chances which lead to actual change.

However, we actually are more successful if we set and make small achievable goals. Using one of my favorite sport’s analogies; it’s much easier to throw a five yard pass and get a first down than it is to throw a sixty yard pass into the end zone and score a touchdown.

This is the beautiful thing about a new day. With every sunrise comes a new opportunity to choose something different, something better, and something which gives us a chance to be the best human we can be.

Maybe a good way to start is by simply asking a question. Am I totally happy where I’ve been and if not what can I do today to take one small step in the right direction?

Every realized goal begins with awareness.

Though inward reflection can make us feel vulnerable, the reward is worth the temporary discomfort of coming face to face with the truth. It is on the doorstep of honesty, that each of us is able to pass through the entrance into self-awareness and self-improvement.

Awareness is the wake-up call for intention.

Once “woke”, we can set our intention for just this day. True change happens in very small increments, one choice at a time. Our best life isn’t about the future – it is being present today, embracing the moment and living fully engaged it what is happening right now.

While the calendar flips to a new year and even a new decade – every day we are alive is a new opportunity to hit the reset button. Happy New You everyone!
