I know 90 year olds who are healthy and strong and eat red meat and drink scotch every day. In contrast I also know a few 40 year old vegetarian tri-athletes who died early from a heart attack. “Seems so unfair.”
Some of the most godly, loving, spiritual people I know are not Christians and some of the most hate-filled, judgmental, selfish, unloving people call themselves “born again” believers. “It took me a while to sort than one out.”
I know people who have everything this life has to offer and yet can’t seem to hold on to love and happiness. Having it all they feel empty, lost and even depressed – harmed by charmed life? “Perhaps a valid diagnosis.”
On the other hand, I know people born with lots of obstacles to overcome, who have never enjoyed material riches or even had enough money to go on a vacation who wake-up grateful and happy just to be alive. “Crazy how that works!”
Irony. It’s all around us. Like ivy encroaching on a man-made wall, it can wrap around even the most pure of heart and engaged mind. None of us are immune – we just think we are. Which is quite “ironic” don’t you think?
