Hello and welcome to The Zen Den. My name is Alison and while I am passionate about many things, my most inspiring driving force is human connection. Blogger, content writer, orthopedic exercise specialist, motivational speaker, international yoga pro, published songwriter, avid poker player, mom and wife are just a few of my titles. But when I do my job at NASA, I am known simply as “The Fairy Zenmother” a role I deeply love because people invite me into their space to help them find their center, relax and stretch their muscles and destress their mind. Here in the blogosphere version of The Zen Den, I invite you into my world where I will explore ideas for creating a better tomorrow and a kinder today. And hopefully, with insight, authenticity and humor; my words, observations and experiences will help you feel calm, centered, intellectually challenged and spiritually enlightened. Alternatively, if you have something you would like to see covered in The Zen Den, just let me know. Your feedback is welcome and valuable to the success of this blog. Finally, my heart is filled with gratitude to have this opportunity to share with all of you.

None of us need any help thinking negative thoughts these days. But all of us could use a boost in the positivity department right now.

From the age of twelve to sixteen, I had one consistent voice pushing me towards the goal of achieving my best, indeed a very positive quest. She was our sports coach who expected nothing less than our all – whether on the track, the basketball court or the weight room – Coach Kite was there to motivate us to never give up.

At the time I wasn’t so appreciative of the power of this “push” but as I grew into adulthood and chose a profession in the fitness industry, her persistence of instilling a strong work ethic became the voice of positivity in my head. “I CAN do this” I have often whispered to myself during times of turmoil and tribulation.

With signs posted in our locker room such as “when the going gets tough the tough get going” even with her subliminal messages our impressionable young minds were being trained to endure life’s rougher terrain.

I believe we all have had our fill of negativity, partisan divide, tribal taunts and divisive rhetoric. The hyperbole of hate has taken its toll on everyone.

It is time for the power of positivity to heal our individual hearts and bind the wounds of our nation as a whole.

While we are all facing a future of uncertainty and grappling with the anxiety of fighting an invisible enemy, I pledge to all of you, my faithful readers, to be a leader in this arena.

Amazingly, once again Coach Kite gave me this wonderful nudge, but this time it was a gentle word on Facebook – to make the Zen Den a “positivity only” safe zone. In her honor and with gratitude for her influence I leave you with this message:

You Can Do This! Together by staying home, we will get through this! Take   this precious gift of time to invest in each other . . . in love . . . in joy, peace           and gratitude for today.  Make positivity the goal of each day. Let’s all do our part to pay it forward.

Thank you, Lana (Coach Kite)
