I just had to fill in my age on a form for the first time since I turned 60! It looked so wrong.
Six Oh! “What in the world?” I thought out loud and probably stunned the young man sitting next to me.
How can I be 60 years old? He didn’t seem shocked at all. Perhaps my decision to walk out with no make-up wasn’t a great choice if I was looking for a “there’s no way!”
Five minutes after completing my first Orange Theory Mount Everest interval challenge – I felt invigorated, mentally stimulated and physically energized to take on the day. Until I wrote down my years on that form, I was thinking I was thirty something. Nothing like a jolt from good old reality to burst my delusional bubble.
If you have ever taken a class you know that all your stats are on an overhead screen. So not only do you get to monitor your heartrate, distance and zone you are working in, you can also see everyone else’s at the same time. I found myself mainly focused on my heartrate especially in relation to my much younger counterparts. Not too shabby. Yay! But again, I was mainly power walking and they were jogging the entire 25 minutes on the treadmill. I gave myself kudos for hanging in there on the increasing incline and going for the full out push in the last minute. Woo-hoo!! I have a feeling an Epsom salt bath is in my near future.
Even though I work out every day in some form or another – it had been a long time since I seriously pushed myself and went full out. The last thing I want to do is get injured or hurt myself due to my stupidly competitive nature (thanks big brother) – so I proceeded with caution and awareness . . . of the fact that I’m stupidly competitive.
After all was done and I made it through with surprisingly little discomfort or fatigue – one thing became very clear. To live a healthy fit lifestyle, it is what we do daily that counts. Even if I only have time for ten minutes of exercise on any given day – every minute I choose to move my body, strengthen and stretch my muscles all adds up over time.
Today I feel great. That number on my heartrate monitor reassured me that my daily choices are defying my years – and that made me feel young at heart and in mind! And I suppose that is what matters the most . . . that and a little help from my aesthetician. Maybe next time a little under-eye concealer? Yep, that will definitely throw them off.
